life as a stylist
Stylists accessorize rearrange minimize
Add drama. Add punch. Add grace .
See my style stories I promise to inspire your own...
Come step with me into every room of the house
Of homes you've met in the magazines.
And new ones that haven't even been published yet...
Yep, photostyling is mostly hard work
but it is also a bit glam as it takes you to a lot of places.
Scenarios below range from
Little Rock, Arkansas to Palm Springs, California.
Bainbridge Island, Washington to Tybee Island, Georgia.
Wibur-by-the-Sea, Florida to Round Top, Texas.
Beverly Hills to Prince Edward Island
Door Country, Wisconsin to Kingston, Jamaica
Maui to Nashville to Eureka Springs to Coconut Grove
And my favs...Avignon, France and Bath, England.
HOVER OVER THE IMAGES BELOW FOR THE INSIDE STORIES
As a magazine stylist, I need to make the homeowner feel comfortable
as I achieve the look that the magazine I am representing
feels is their particular style.
In some cases, as in California Home + Design, that involves dramatically minimizing...
in others, as in French Country Style
that may be dramatically maximizing...accessorizing...adding layers.
The stylist/producer is the middle person between homeowner and magazine editors
and often even between a designer very concerned about "her/his look."
Photographers often toss their opinion in the mix as well.
You can imagine the politics.
(Boy, do I have stories! Later...)
Sometimes, as a stylist, you add
and sometimes you subtract as in the two dining rooms below...
Shot 1...too much clutter on the counter and table
Shot 2... same shot but with fewer chairs, a dash of Color
and a focal point of fresh flowers.
Shot 3...no personality
Shot 4...same shot enhanced with Color and "a moment" of Lifestyle.

And finally, a good stylist must have
dependable office assistants...
